Have you ever wanted to share a YouTube video with a friend, but couldn’t, thanks to a lack of Wi-Fi or restricted data? Well, you are in luck. There is no shortage of desktop and web-based software that would allow you to download YouTube videos. Just remember that downloading YouTube videos is a violation of their Terms of Service.
VLC is a great tool for downloading videos for Windows, MacOS and Linus. VLC allows you to bypass third-party software and ad-riddled websites and it is a easy to use media player as well.
Start your download by navigating to the desired YouTube video in your browser and copy the URL. After launching VLC on you Mac, click ‘open network stream’. Choose ‘file’ and then ‘open network’, paste your YouTube URL in the box and click ‘open’. Your video will start playing.
For the next step you should select ‘window’ and choose ‘media information’. Look for the ‘location’ bar at the bottom. You will find a direct link to Google’s servers for your video. Copy the URL and paste the YouTube link in the address bar of your browser.
This will start the video in your browser. Right click the video and choose ‘save as’. Your video will now be saved to a folder of your choosing. The process is pretty simple, but will require a little practice if you would like to become a download master 😉
