Android has been crowned the most popular operating system around the world on mobile, laptop, tablet and desktop. This was according to a report from StatCounter, an independent web analytic company.
The new findings marks the end of an era, a sort of milestone in technology history, as it marks the end of Microsoft’s lead worldwide, which it held since the 1980’s. It also shows Androids growth in recent years, since it held only 2.4 percent of global internet usage shares five years ago.
The flood of smartphones and their internet proficiency helped push Android ahead, since Android is the leader in mobile platforms. It will have to be seen if Android can keep this lead, as Microsoft is working hard on a product aimed to replace a desktop and smartphone with a single Microsoft powered device.
