Netflix has been trying to combat piracy for some time now and their latest move stops the Netflix app from working on rooted Android devices. This also counts for Android devices with an altered Android operating system. Unfortunately this does not only apply to Netflix users, as other apps could follow in their footsteps soon.
Netflix has adopted Google’s Widevine Digital Rights Management protocol in their latest app update, version 5.0. This stops non-Google certified devices, or rooted devices from downloading certain apps in the Play Store.
Netflix has taken this step to stop people from pirating shows and movies downloaded from the streaming giant. After introducing the mobile downloads feature, the company has become more aware of pirate possibilities, putting them in a tough legal spot.
Devices that could post a problem are imported models form China, these include, Meizu, Oppo, Xiaomi and more. It is possible to unroot a device, though we would suggest that you seek help from a professional.
