Google made an announcement at the 2017 I/O developer conference about their new cloud-based service that optimizes apps for Android devices. The app is available in the Google Play store and is called Google Play app Signing.
The app automatically adapts apps to fit multiple screen resolutions, different processor models and RAM configurations. Signing also compresses apps by deleting redundant code, freeing up valuable space on Android devices.
Deliveroo tested the new Google Play App Signing and shrunk their own app by 36 percent, from 13.6MB to 9.1MB. The app comes as a great relief to developers who in the past, has had to publish a brand-new app when they have lost their key. The new Google Play app service will automatically verify the app, eliminating unnecessary stress on developers.
Google wants to ensure the safety and success of Play Store as the monthly installs regularly exceeds 1 million, with just over 82 billion app downloads since its launch. Keeping Android users happy will mean more return business and sales.
