Facebook wants to protect your profile pictures

With social media it has become way too easy for someone to steal your identity. One of the most common instances is copycat Facebook pages, complete with profile pictures. Facebook wants to eliminate this with a new feature that gives users more control over who can download and share their pictures.

The new tool was developed in partnership with India safety organizations and the pilot is currently running in India and will increase your online safety. As profile pictures are the most important part of building the social community, Facebook decided to start there with a new profile picture guard.

This new feature, if you decide to use it, will not allow users to share or download your profile picture on Facebook. The social media giant will also display a blue border and shield around your picture to show that it is protected by the feature. Facebook hopes that this will discourage people from even trying to copy your pictures.
